Jean Leask Ridout (1939-2018) was born in Glasgow with a twin sister, Christine. Her parents, Jimmy and Lizzy, had five other children, Jim, Irene, Douglas, Betty and Evelyn. During her early childhood the family lived in a one room tenement. Jean left school aged 14 and became a machinist. In 1961 she met Stephen Ridout whom she married the following year. The couple moved to London but soon returned to Glasgow for the birth of their first child, Steve. Later they moved to Cardiff where Stephen’s family lived and where two years later Ruth was born. They returned to Scotland in 1972 where Jean worked in Bangour hospital. In 1977 they moved back to Cardiff where Jean worked as a home carer for Cardiff City. She also travelled to London every week to look after her grandson, Kaya. Jean remained a proud Scott.
