Cynthia Swift
Cynthia Swift (1923 – 2021) was born on 2nd July 1923, the seventh of Jane and George Booth’s eight children. Cynthia left school at fourteen and went into service before working in a laundry, where she met Ted, a postman. Cynthia and Ted married on 24th April 1943, and started their married life living with Cynthia’s mother in Sevenoaks. For a short time during WW2 Cynthia lived with her brother Ginger’s wife in Pagham where Margaret was born. Mike and Marilyn were born after the War had ended. The family moved to Westfield, where Cynthia worked locally in the Post Office and then eighteen years for Dr Wright. Cynthia had many interests including knitting, cooking, music and dancing and dogs. When Ted retired, he and Cynthia moved to Shaftesbury before returning to Sussex to be near their growing family. Cynthia and Ted were married for 78 years and had six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
