Eric Daniel
Eric Daniel (1933 – 2023) was born on 30th November 1933 to Albert and Margaret Daniel. After leaving school at 14, Eric became an apprentice joiner in Osnath pram works until he was called up for National Service in 1952. As a gunner in the Royal Artillery he was initially based in Oswestry before being transferred to Osnabrück and Berlin in Germany where he reached the rank of Lance-Bombadier.
Returning to the UK Eric took night school classes in Law, English and Business and secured a job in Warrington with Lombard North Central, the finance arm of National Westminster Bank, working mostly in the motor trade. His career took him to Bolton, returning to Warrington and Liverpool, followed by Essex and eventually Redhill.
Eric married Joan in 1959, a marriage which lasted for 62 years, living in Lymm before moving south to East Grinstead and finally, to Copthorne. Their daughter Claire was born in 1961 and Jacqueline in 1964. The family enjoyed holidays all over the UK in their caravan with their dog William. After his retirement Eric and Joan celebrated their wedding anniversary every March in Tenerife.
Eric was a keen gardener and amongst his many other interests he and Joan played golf and he became President of the local Probus. Eric was a grandfather to James, Alastair, Isabelle and Sophie and a great-grandfather to Zoë, Emma and Rupert.
