David Pollock

David Pollock (1942–2023) was born in February 1942 and turned out to be the eldest of four brothers in a large and loving extended middle class family with progressive tendencies. He had many happy and vivid memories from his childhood, which was secure and supportive, including of a much loved grandmother, his Nanny. He was the sort of student that teachers were fond of and to whom they give special attention. It was in primary school that he privately gave up on religion but for all other types of education he gained a lifelong interest.

David was a thinker, activist, and writer of enormous energy and vision. His contribution to the European humanist movement has had no equal and in the UK his contribution to the UK movement was equalled only by those who formed it in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. He was a humanist activist for over sixty years.
