Sheila Winifred Williams
Sheila Winifred Williams (1944 – 2024), was born in Halifax on 23rd March 1944, the first child of Kenneth and Teresa Critchley, followed by her brother Peter and sister Wendy. After her father died just before Sheila’s sixth birthday and after her mother had married Horace Cairns, Sheila became the eldest sister to David, Keith, Paul and Susan. Sheila went to Raw Lane Infants, Whitehill Junior and J H Whitley schools.
After leaving school Sheila had various jobs including Temples the tailors, helping run the Post Office in Mixenden and as a bookkeeper in Fred Moore’s electrical shop. She married Alan Gee in 1965 and they had one son, Marcus.
After her marriage to Glyn Williams, in the 1990’s Sheila became a member of the committee of the Crossley Stansfield Residents’ Association, where they lived. After moving to Boothtown, Sheila helped set up the Boothtown Partnership. Through her commitment to improving facilities and helping local communities, Sheila was awarded the Honorary Freeman of the Metropolitan Borough of Calderdale in 2000.
Sheila’s interests were creative, making birthday and anniversary cards, knitting and tapestry. She holidayed mostly in the UK, particularly enjoying visiting Llandudno, North Wales.
