David Taylor

David Taylor (1943 – 2024), was born in Bolton to Charles and Nellie Taylor on 17th August 1943, an older brother to Anne-Marie.  Leaving school at sixteen, David qualified first as a Civil Engineer, then as a Chartered Civil and also a Chartered Structural Engineer.  Moving to Huddersfield, David worked for Borough Engineers, West Riding County Council and the Electricity Board, working on a project at the Sellafield nuclear plant, Cumbria.

David was active in the local community as a Ward Councillor for Holme Valley South, as a Governor and Chair of Governors at Holmfirth High School, and a Trustee for Wooldale Community Centre.

David joined the Young Socialists and became a member of the Labour Party where he met Ann.  They married on 28th October 1966, moving to Baildon, before settling in Huddersfield.  They had two children Isabel and Andrew.

David and Ann liked travelling, visiting California and Cuba, before taking UK holidays with their children and later, holidays in Europe.  A small annex in Auriebat, Occitanie, France became David and Ann’s second home where each year for over 30 years, they would meet Tim and Jane who stayed at the house next door and became close friends.

David was a life-long Bolton Wanderers football supporter.
