Sheila Georgina Fielder
Sheila Georgina Fielder (1931 – 2024) and her twin sister Doreen were born to Violet Burston and George Barnes in Islington, London, on 7 January 1931. For six years during World War 2, Sheila and Doreen lived as evacuees with Mabel and Charlie Etheridge in Earls Colne, Essex. The twins returned to live with their mother, stepfather Don and step-siblings Tina and Andrew, in Hornsey Park Road, North London.
Sheila’s first job with Doreen, was selling sweets in Woolworth’s, before they became telephone cleaners in offices in the City of London. Sheila worked at Barratts, the sweet factory in Wood Green.
Sheila married Norman Fielder in 1953. Initially living in Tottenham they moved to Tufnell Park Road, then to a flat in Burns Buildings, Caledonian Road and then Selkirk House, Storey Street, near Kings Cross before moving to live for over 25 years in Seafield Road, Arnos Grove. After retiring, they moved to St Lawrence Bay, Essex. When widowed, Sheila moved to Blackpool and then to Bootle.
When children, Sheila and Doreen had enjoyed roller skating at Alexander Palace. Throughout her life, Sheila enjoyed cycling, on a tandem with Norman, dancing and gardening. She supported Tottenham Hotspur and followed darts, her favourite player being Michael van Gerwen.
Holidaying for many years in their caravan at Millbeach, near Maldon, Essex, in 1987 they took their first holiday abroad, in the Algarve. After Norman died, Sheila took more adventurous holidays, often on cruises, visiting the Falkland Islands in 2003 and she was in Thailand in 2004 when the tsunami hit the islands.
Sheila and Norman had three children Gary, Jeanette and Peter.
