Enid Ellis
Enid Ellis (1933 – 2024)) was born in Hyde Terrace Nursing Home, Leeds to Freda and Clifford Jenkins the eldest sister to Muriel and Sheila. Enid attended Queens Road Infants School, Brudenell School and after passing her 11 plus, Thoresby Girls’ High School, Leeds. During her childhood Enid was a member of the 5th Leeds Girl Guides and the youth group at Woodhouse Moor Methodist Chapel.
Enid became a typist at the Provincial Insurance Company before moving to the classified advertisements department of the Yorkshire Evening News and subsequently, Brook Motors. She later worked for Sainsburys.
Enid met Arnold Ellis at the Capitol Ballroom, Meanwood and they were married on 17th July 1954. They set up home in Burniston Drive and had two children Martin and Caroline. When the children were young the family took holidays in the Lake District and Cornwall. After the children had left home, Enid and Arnold took holidays abroad, visiting Europe, America and Canada, Turkey, China and Jamaica.
Enid’s other interests included modern sequence dancing with Arnold and going to the theatre and musicals.
