Alan Richard Smith

Alan Richard Smith (1948 – 2025), ‘Richard’, was born in Northampton, the second son of Joan and Alf, and younger brother of  Colin. As a child he played in Delapre Park and the grounds of Wootton Hall and attended Northampton Grammar School, after which he moved into social work, which he later taught. He was awarded a Master’s degree at Northampton University.

He was an active member of the Labour party, and a lover of the outdoors.

He married Philippa and had children Zoë and Liam, and two grandchildren. Aged 42, he had a stroke which left him with many health and mobility challenges, but he continued to live a rich life.
