Gerald Howard Vickers
Gerald Howard Vickers (1924 − 2025), always known as Gerry, was born in Rotherham, Yorkshire, to Doris and Cyril Vickers, the elder brother of Margaret and John. From grammar school he went to study at Rotherham College of Technology, and served a five-year technical apprenticeship at Rotherham power station where he became a control engineer.
He worked in power stations for the whole of his career, at Mexborough, Keadby, Thorpe Marsh and Eggborough, and finally Drax in 1970, where he was appointed Superintendent, responsible for overseeing its construction. He later became Group Manager for the Central Electricity Generating Board (CEGB) in the North-West.
On retirement he worked for Sedgwick Insurance, volunteered for the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB), and was a member of the Probus Club. He lived nearly all his life in Yorkshire, his last home being in Burton Salmon.
He married Audley in 1949 and had three children − Charles, Ruth and Alison − plus grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
