Kenneth Maclean

Kenneth Maclean, ‘Ken’, (1934 – 2022) was born on 2 October 1934 in Brampton in Cumbria and had a sister, Sheila. His father was also called Kenneth.

He spent his National Service years with the RAF in Egypt before returning to take a clerical job with the Ministry of Defence in Carlisle.

During a posting in Wimbledon he met Barbara Clarke, and they married in 1954 and had two sons, Paul and Gordon. In the early 60s, after a period in Newcastle, Ken joined the Exchequer and Audit department in Watford and the family moved to Luton. He progressed to key roles in the Civil Service, later moving to the International Audit Department, based in Paris.

Ken took early retirement when he was 58, using his newfound leisure time to help to run the South Bedfordshire golf club and act as Chairman of the local Citizens Advice Bureau while enjoying his grandchildren.
